Bengaluru, August 10, 2025 — Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday announced that India has emerged as the top supplier of smartphones to the United States, with the country’s electronics manufacturing sector now valued at ₹12 lakh crore.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Metro projects in Bengaluru, Vaishnaw said India’s electronics production has grown sixfold in the last 11 years, while exports have risen eightfold to reach ₹3 lakh crore. He also highlighted India’s position as the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, a sign of the nation’s growing influence in the global electronics market.

“This growth reflects India’s focus on becoming a global hub for technology production, making advanced electronics more widely available and supporting the Prime Minister’s vision of inclusive access to technology for all,” Vaishnaw said.

Official data shows that in 2014 India had only two mobile manufacturing units, whereas today the country boasts over 300 units. The share of made-in-India mobile phones has jumped from 26% in 2014-15 to 99.2% today. The manufacturing value of mobile phones has surged from ₹18,900 crore in FY14 to ₹4,22,000 crore in FY24.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off three Vande Bharat trains — Ajni (Nagpur)-Pune, KSR Bengaluru-Belgavi, and Shree Mata Vaishnodevi Katra-Amritsar — from KSR Bengaluru railway station. With these additions, India now has 150 Vande Bharat trains (75 pairs) in service, Vaishnaw shared on X.
