Chandigarh— The nomination process for the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in Punjab began today. Candidates can file their nominations from December 1 to 4 between 11 am and 3 pm. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on December 5, voting will be held on December 14, and results will be declared on December 17.

Along with the start of the nomination process, a major administrative development has emerged. The Department of Rural Development and Panchayats has informed the State Election Commission that, according to a notification issued by the Local Government Department on November 28, 2025, fifteen villages adjacent to the Municipal Corporation, Mohali have now been included within the municipal corporation limits.

Due to this notification, the jurisdiction of the Mohali Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad has undergone a major change. These 15 gram panchayats are no longer part of the Mohali Panchayat Samiti or Zila Parishad area. As a result, the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats will now carry out a fresh reorganisation of the Mohali block and Zila Parishad boundaries.

Based on recommendations from the Rural Development and Panchayats Department and the Deputy Commissioner of Mohali, the State Election Commission has decided to postpone elections for the Mohali Panchayat Samiti and Mohali Zila Parishad until the reorganisation is completed.

However, elections for Panchayat Samiti Derabassi, Panchayat Samiti Kharar, and Panchayat Samiti Majri will proceed as per the existing schedule.
