Chandigarh: Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, who left the Congress to join the BJP, has given a significant political suggestion to his party ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. In an interview with a private channel, he said that the BJP can win in Punjab only by forming an alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
After his statement, discussions around a possible BJP–Akali Dal reunion have intensified once again. Captain Amarinder Singh said that the BJP currently lacks a deep understanding of Punjab’s social and political structure.
He added that if the BJP wants to win the 2027 elections, it must strengthen its cadre, but that process will take two to three election cycles. According to him, forming an alliance with the Akali Dal is the only path to victory.
The former Chief Minister reiterated that the only way for the BJP to come to power in Punjab is through a partnership with the Shiromani Akali Dal. “There is no other route to forming a government,” he said. “We have to go with the Akali Dal.”
