Laljit Singh Bhullar Pins Stars on 6 Promoted Jail Officers; Highlights Prison Reforms

Chandigarh: In a path breaking initiative aimed at strengthening the functioning of jails in the State besides ensuring the further fine tuning of infrastructure, the Jails Minister, Punjab, Laljit Singh Bhullar today conducted a piping ceremony of newly promoted prison officials at his office in Punjab Civil Secretariat here. Today, stars were pinned on the shoulders of 6 AIGs/Superintendent Central Jails.

Notably, 14 officials have been promoted including 6 AIGs/Superintendent Central Jails and 8 DSPs Grade-1

The move is aimed at more effective management of the prison infrastructure in Punjab apart from addressing the manpower requirements as well as improving the administrative efficiency, said the Minister while congratulating the promoted officers. The Minister outlined that with higher ranks comes greater responsibility and decision making authority which would enable the promoted officers to ensure enhanced security, discipline and undertake various measures for the welfare of the inmates.

These promotions symbolize the recognition of merit and efficiency thus motivating the workforce to maintain highest standards of duty, integrity and professionalism, said the Minister adding that with the years of expertise that these officers possess, the correctional mechanism would evolve into a more transparent and efficient system. The Minister during his interaction with the promoted officers highlighted the commitment of the Punjab Government to modernize jail infrastructure and chalking out comprehensive educational, vocational and various other welfare centric steps for the prisoners.

The ADGP (Prisons) Arun Pal Singh while extending congratulations to the newly promoted officers emphasized the critical role that each officer and Member plays in the overall functioning of the department.

The Principal Secretary, Jails, Bhavna Garg also extended her best wishes to the newly promoted officers on the occasion.
