Sarnia, Canada: A 51-year-old Indian national, Jagjit Singh, has been convicted of criminal harassment for targeting two teenage girls outside a high school in Sarnia, Ontario. Singh, who was visiting Canada on a six-month visa to see his newborn grandchild, has been ordered deported and permanently barred from re-entering the country.

Between September 8 and 11, Singh reportedly spent time in the school’s smoking area, approaching girls to take photographs and discussing drugs and alcohol despite not speaking English. One of the victims recounted that she had initially agreed to a photo, only for Singh to invade her personal space and attempt to place his arm around her.

“This type of conduct will not be tolerated,” Justice Krista Lynn Leszczynski stated during the hearing.

Although Singh’s lawyer informed the court that he had a return ticket to India on December 30, the judge confirmed his deportation and the permanent ban on re-entry.
