New Delhi: The Delhi government has announced a public holiday on November 25 to commemorate the 350th martyrdom day of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru. The decision, confirmed through an official statement, aims to give citizens an opportunity to reflect on Guru Sahib’s sacrifice and his enduring message of protecting humanity and religious freedom.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s life remains a symbol of unmatched courage and moral strength in the face of oppression. She described the Guru as a defender of universal human rights whose teachings continue to guide society even centuries later.

“Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji laid down his life to safeguard India’s religious freedom and taught us that the principles of truth and justice must be upheld at any cost,” the Chief Minister said. She added that his martyrdom stands as a powerful reminder that real humanity lies in defending the dignity and rights of others, even at great personal sacrifice.

Gupta said the public holiday is a sincere tribute from the Delhi government, urging citizens to observe the day with reverence and to embrace Guru Sahib’s teachings of unity, compassion and respect for all faiths. She noted that his life story inspires generations to work towards a society built on peace, equality and moral courage.

Meanwhile, both the Delhi and Haryana governments have issued separate notifications declaring November 25 as a restricted holiday on the occasion of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s 350th martyrdom day.
