Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Unidentified militants opened fire on a local peace committee office in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, killing at least seven members and injuring several others, police said on Friday.

The attackers targeted the headquarters of Qari Jaleel, chief of a village peace committee, in the Dara Dariz area of Bannu district late Thursday night. Officials said the gunmen stormed the building using automatic weapons and possibly heavier ammunition during the assault.

One person who sustained serious injuries was taken to a nearby hospital. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched a large-scale search operation to trace the attackers.

No group has claimed responsibility so far.

The incident comes at a time when Pakistan is witnessing a sharp rise in militant violence. According to an October media report, overall terror-related incidents increased by 46 percent in the third quarter of 2025, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa emerging as the most affected region, accounting for nearly 71 percent of all fatalities.

Authorities say investigations are underway and additional security measures are being taken in the region to prevent further attacks.
