Ferozepur: The man suspected to be the key figure behind the killing of Naveen Arora, son of a local RSS functionary, was arrested early Thursday morning after an armed confrontation with police near the Punjab–Pakistan border district.

Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh said officers moved into action after receiving a late-night alert that the prime suspect, Gursimran Singh — widely known by his alias, Jatin Kali — had been spotted near Sodhiwala in Arif Ke village. Multiple teams were deployed to seal off the area, and checkpoints were set up to intercept him.

According to police, a motorcyclist approaching one of the checkpoints ignored signals to stop and attempted to speed away. Officers pursued the bike, during which the suspect allegedly fired at the police vehicle, shattering its front windscreen and narrowly missing the driver. The police team retaliated, hitting the rider in the leg and forcing him to halt. He was immediately detained and taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment.

Investigators say the firearm recovered from the scene is a .32-bore pistol. Forensic tests will determine whether it is the same weapon used in the murder of Arora, who was shot dead on Saturday evening.

The arrest comes after two alleged accomplices — identified as Harsh and Kanav — were taken into custody earlier in the week. Police have withheld details of a fourth suspect to avoid compromising the investigation, while another accused, known as Badal, is still at large.

Authorities say the probe is progressing rapidly, and further arrests are expected as they piece together the sequence of events leading to Arora’s killing.
