Nawanshahr: A sudden burst of gunfire at the Banga Bus Stand in Punjab’s Nawanshahr on Monday created panic among commuters and shopkeepers. Eyewitnesses said two cars were chasing each other when they arrived at the bus stand. One of the vehicles was a Scorpio, and the other—an i20—carried the attackers who opened fire as soon as they reached the spot, firing nearly 35 to 40 rounds.

Five youths travelling in the Scorpio were severely injured in the attack. They were immediately taken to Guru Nanak Mission Hospital, but due to their critical condition, all were referred to DMC Ludhiana for advanced treatment.

Police reached the location soon after receiving the alert and seized the bullet-riddled Scorpio. Officers questioned people in the vicinity, though the exact motive behind the firing is still unclear. The assailants in the i20 fled the scene after the attack. CCTV footage from cameras installed around the area is being examined to trace their route and identify them.
