BUDGAM: A late-night road accident in central Kashmir’s Budgam district claimed four lives and left five others injured after a Tata Sumo and a dumper truck collided on Saturday, officials said.

The crash occurred at Palar, shortly before 10:30 p.m., when the two vehicles reportedly struck each other with significant impact. Local residents and passersby alerted authorities, prompting police and medical teams to rush to the scene.

Nine occupants of the Sumo were transported to a nearby medical facility. Doctors there confirmed that four victims had no signs of life upon arrival, while the remaining five individuals are undergoing treatment for various injuries.

Police have initiated an investigation to determine the sequence of events and the cause of the collision. The wrecked vehicles have been seized for examination, and officials said preliminary findings will guide further action.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the locality, where fatal accidents remain a matter of growing concern. Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution, especially during nighttime travel when visibility is reduced.
