Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken into custody Janisur Alam, also known as Nisar Alam, an MBBS student at Al-Falah University, Haryana, in connection with suspected links to terrorist activities, officials confirmed on Saturday.

Alam, a resident of Ludhiana with ancestral roots in Konal village near Dalkhola, was apprehended from the Surjapur Bazar area on Friday while returning from a family wedding. Authorities said he was intercepted after his movements were tracked using mobile tower location data.

A senior officer explained, “The student had traveled with his mother and sister to attend a wedding at his ancestral home. He was intercepted by NIA officials while returning, under suspicion of involvement in activities related to the recent Delhi blast case.”

During questioning, sources said Alam reportedly tried to evade custody, prompting investigators to formally detain him. Officials added that digital devices and documents were seized for further examination, though the NIA has not yet clarified the precise nature of his alleged links to the Delhi incident.

Relatives described Alam as a quiet and dedicated student, with no apparent involvement in any unlawful activity. “He was always focused on his studies, calm, and polite. It is hard to believe he could be connected to such an event,” said his uncle. His mother echoed these sentiments, calling the allegations “beyond comprehension.”

The student is currently being transferred to Siliguri for further interrogation as the investigation continues. The NIA has not released an official statement detailing evidence or charges.

The arrest follows the terror blast near the Red Fort in New Delhi, which claimed 13 lives and injured several others. Following the explosion, the NIA had also conducted raids in Murshidabad district, including the residence of migrant worker Moinul Hasan, to investigate potential links with extremist networks and possible connections to the Uttar Dinajpur student.

Authorities are continuing their probe into the Delhi blast, with multiple angles under scrutiny, including possible coordination among individuals across different states.
