Ratlam: Five people, including a 15-year-old boy and a 70-year-old man, died after a speeding car lost control and plunged into a ditch on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district on Friday.

The accident took place in the morning near the Rawti police station area, about 30 km from Ratlam city. Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar told PTI that the car was travelling towards Mumbai when the driver lost control, broke through the expressway’s aluminium barrier, and fell into a deep ditch.

Police said the impact of the crash suggests the vehicle was moving at high speed when it smashed through the strong barrier. Early investigation indicates the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Rescue teams pulled out all five bodies from the ditch and sent them for post-mortem. A detailed inquiry into the accident is underway, officials said.
