Mumbai: Legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra has been discharged from Breach Candy Hospital and will continue his recuperation at home, his family announced on Wednesday. The 89-year-old star was admitted a few days ago for undisclosed medical tests.

In a statement issued through Sunny Deol’s PR representative, the family expressed gratitude for the public’s concern and requested privacy during this period. “Mr. Dharmendra has been discharged from the hospital and will continue his recovery at home. We sincerely ask everyone to avoid speculation and to respect the family’s privacy. We thank all fans for their prayers and good wishes for his health and long life,” the statement read.

Dr. Pratit Samdani, who was overseeing the actor’s treatment, confirmed the discharge, saying, “Dharmendra ji left the hospital around 7:30 a.m. The family has chosen home-based care for his recovery.” He declined to share further medical details, citing confidentiality.

An ambulance was later seen heading towards Sunny Deol’s residence in Juhu, where Dharmendra will reportedly rest under medical supervision.

The update comes after false reports of the actor’s passing circulated on social media Tuesday, prompting sharp responses from family members. Dharmendra’s daughter Esha Deol dismissed the rumours, writing on Instagram, “My father is stable and recovering. Please allow us some privacy. Thank you for your prayers.”

His wife, actor and parliamentarian Hema Malini, also condemned what she called “irresponsible journalism.” In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, “It’s unforgivable how some channels spread false news about someone who is recovering. Such behaviour is insensitive and disrespectful. Please let the family have its privacy.”

During his hospital stay, several industry figures, including Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Salman Khan, reportedly visited the veteran actor to convey their best wishes.

Dharmendra, fondly known as the “He-Man” of Indian cinema, has remained a beloved figure for decades, with fans across generations praying for his swift and complete recovery.
