Ferozepur (Punjab): In a major breakthrough against cross-border crime, the Ferozepur Police dismantled an international weapon smuggling network on Tuesday, arresting two operatives and seizing a cache of arms and ammunition. The operation was carried out under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann as part of Punjab’s ongoing drive to strengthen state security.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gori of Ruhela Hazi village in Ferozepur and Vikramjeet Singh alias Vicky of Jalalabad, Fazilka. Police recovered four 9mm Glock pistols, four magazines, and four live cartridges from their possession. Their Hero Deluxe motorcycle (PB 05 AK 9761) used during smuggling operations has also been impounded.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Vikramjeet Singh maintained direct contact with a Pakistan-based arms trafficker and acted as a key intermediary in delivering weapons to local networks on instructions from his foreign handlers. The arrest has also helped police connect the dots to a previous case involving the recovery of an AK-47 rifle from the same smuggling channel.

Ferozepur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said that acting on precise intelligence, police teams apprehended the duo from Basti Boote Wala, recovering two pistols on the spot. Based on their disclosures, two more Glock pistols were later retrieved from a location they identified.

The SSP added that a detailed technical analysis of seized digital devices is underway to uncover the full extent of the network, including the involvement of foreign handlers and local collaborators. More arrests and recoveries are expected in the coming days.

A case under FIR No. 177 dated November 8, 2025, has been registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Sadar Zira, Ferozepur.
