Mumbai: Legendary Bollywood actor Prem Chopra has been admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital after experiencing chest congestion, according to reports. The 89-year-old star, known for his iconic villainous roles in Hindi cinema, has been under medical observation since Saturday, November 8.

Family members have confirmed that Chopra is recovering well and is likely to be discharged within the next few days. “He’s doing much better now and responding positively to treatment. Doctors have advised rest, and he should be home soon,” a family source said.

Dr. Jalil Parker, who is part of the team treating the veteran actor, shared details about his condition. “Prem Chopra ji was admitted under his family cardiologist, Dr. Nitin Gokhale. He had a mild heart issue coupled with a viral and lung infection. However, he is stable, not in the ICU, and receiving treatment in a general ward,” Dr. Parker clarified.

Prem Chopra, a towering figure in Indian cinema, has appeared in over 400 films across five decades. He began his journey in Punjabi cinema with the acclaimed film Chaudhary Karnail Singh (1960) before making a successful transition to Bollywood. While his performance in Shaheed (1965) showcased his versatility in a positive role, it was his suave and menacing portrayals of antagonists that made him a household name.

From Do Raaste and Kati Patang to Kranti and Dostana, Chopra defined the quintessential Hindi film villain through the ’70s and ’80s. His memorable line “Prem naam hai mera, Prem Chopra” remains one of Bollywood’s most quoted dialogues.

Fans and colleagues from the film fraternity have been sending their wishes for his speedy recovery. The actor’s family has urged everyone to avoid speculation and to trust only verified updates regarding his health.
