Shimla: A man was apprehended by police in Shimla district early Sunday morning after being found in possession of 9.6 grams of chitta (heroin), authorities reported.

The accused has been identified as Lovesh, a resident of Chowki village in Kufri. The arrest took place at around 2:35 am near Rahighat on National Highway 5, when a patrolling police team spotted him acting suspiciously.

Upon noticing the police, Lovesh allegedly attempted to flee the scene and discarded a packet onto the roadside. Officers immediately caught him and recovered the package, which was confirmed to contain chitta.

A case has been registered under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigations are ongoing, police said.

Authorities emphasized that vigilance and regular patrolling played a key role in preventing the circulation of illegal narcotics in the region.
