Bhopal: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi expressed strong condemnation over reports of children being served mid-day meals on scrap newspapers in a government school in Madhya Pradesh, calling the situation “heartbreaking” and urging the Prime Minister and state leadership to take responsibility.

Sharing his reaction on X, Gandhi wrote that he was visiting Madhya Pradesh and was deeply disturbed by the conditions in which students were being fed. “These are innocent children whose dreams shape the future of India, and yet they are not even given a proper plate,” he said.

Criticizing the state and central governments, he remarked that over two decades of BJP rule had failed to ensure basic dignity for children, describing their so-called “development” as an illusion. He further added that the “real secret to power is system,” implying systemic neglect of public welfare.

Gandhi’s statement directly targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, stating they should be ashamed of allowing such conditions for the country’s young generation.

The Congress leader’s remarks come amid growing scrutiny over the quality and management of mid-day meal schemes in several states, highlighting concerns about government oversight and child welfare.
