Kupwara: Security forces successfully foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the death of two unidentified terrorists, officials confirmed on Saturday.

According to the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of the Indian Army, the operation was launched on Friday following specific intelligence inputs regarding suspicious movement in the Keran sector of Kupwara.

“Alert troops noticed unusual activity and challenged the individuals, which led to indiscriminate firing by the infiltrators,” the Army said in a statement posted on X.

The encounter concluded with the neutralisation of both terrorists. Security forces are continuing to search the surrounding area to ensure that no further threat remains.

Officials described the action as part of ongoing counter-infiltration measures along the sensitive border region, underscoring the Army’s vigilance in preventing cross-border incursions. No casualties among security personnel were reported in the operation.

Kupwara, a region frequently targeted by infiltrators attempting to cross from across the LoC, has seen heightened patrols and surveillance in recent months. The Army emphasized that such proactive operations are critical in maintaining security along the Jammu and Kashmir frontier.

The identity and affiliations of the neutralised terrorists are yet to be confirmed. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

This operation comes amid increased alertness by security forces along the LoC, particularly in sectors where intelligence reports suggest possible attempts at infiltration.
