Ahmedabad— A 33-year-old Gujarat forest officer was found with a gunshot injury inside her car in Surat district’s Kamrej taluka on Thursday morning, police said. Her four-year-old son, who was with her at the time, escaped unharmed.

The officer, identified as Sonal Arvindbhai Solanki, a Range Forest Officer posted in the Pal division, was discovered in her crashed car near Jhokha-Vaav in Kamrej. Police said the vehicle had rammed into a tree before locals alerted authorities.

Doctors managed to remove the bullet from Solanki’s body, but her condition remains critical. According to investigators, her son told police he heard a loud sound before his mother collapsed.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) R. R. Sarvaiya said Solanki’s brothers have filed a complaint against her husband, Nikunj Krantigiri Goswami, an inspector at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Surat’s Pali area. Goswami is currently missing, and police teams have launched a search operation to locate him.

Officials said the couple married in 2020 but had been living separately for about a year. Solanki had been residing with her parents in Jhokha and had earlier accused her husband of harassment. On November 2, she lodged a complaint with Kamrej police alleging that her husband was tracking her vehicle and that she feared for her and her child’s safety.

Police said further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the shooting.
