Lakhisarai— Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha’s convoy came under attack in Lakhisarai on Thursday as polling began for the first phase of the Assembly elections. Stones, slippers, and other objects were reportedly hurled at his vehicle when his convoy entered Khoriari village in the district.

According to reports, the attack occurred as Sinha — who is also the BJP candidate from Lakhisarai — was attempting to reach polling booths 404 and 405 in the area. A group of people allegedly tried to block his entry into the village, shouting slogans of “Murdabad.”

“These are the goons of the RJD. They are stopping me from entering the village. The NDA is coming to power, and that’s why they are resorting to violence,” Sinha said at the site. He alleged that his polling agent was turned away and prevented from voting. “Look at their hooliganism. The RJD workers are trying to capture booths,” he added.

A video circulating online shows villagers chanting slogans and expressing anger over the poor road conditions in the area. Stones can be seen being thrown toward the convoy amid the chaos.

Following the incident, the Election Commission of India directed the state’s Director General of Police to take immediate action. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has sought a detailed report on the matter, according to PTI.

Polling for 121 Assembly constituencies across 18 districts began Thursday morning amid tight security arrangements. The second phase of voting will be held on November 11, and the results are scheduled for November 14.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Imran Masood alleged large-scale discrepancies in voter lists, claiming that many voters were turned away from polling booths. “Many people had to return because their names were missing from the list. What Rahul Gandhi said yesterday can also be seen here. They are trying to deprive people of their right to vote,” Masood said in Saharanpur.
