Faridabad— A 19-year-old boy has been booked for attempted murder after he allegedly shot a 17-year-old girl from close range in Ballabgarh’s Shyam Colony on Monday evening, police said on Tuesday. The victim, a Class XII student at a private school, was returning home from a nearby library when the accused opened fire, leaving her injured on the forearm and shoulder.

According to police officials, the girl was rushed to a private hospital where she is undergoing treatment and is said to be in stable condition.

Investigators said the accused fled the scene on a motorcycle after throwing his country-made pistol on the road. Police have recovered the weapon and launched multiple teams to track him down.

Inspector Shamsher Singh, station house officer of City Ballabgarh police station, said the incident occurred between 5 and 5:30 pm. “In her statement, the victim said she had known the accused for about a year as he also studied at the same private library. She stopped talking to him around two weeks ago, which appears to have angered him,” he said.

CCTV footage reportedly shows the boy waiting outside the library before the attack. “He tried to shoot her in the head from very close range but missed. The bullet and splinters hit her arm and shoulder instead. She survived miraculously,” Singh added.

The police have registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code at City Ballabgarh police station based on the victim’s complaint. A manhunt is underway to apprehend the accused.
