New Delhi: Air India faced two separate in-flight diversions within 48 hours after suspected technical issues were reported on international and domestic routes. The airline confirmed that all passengers and crew on both flights are safe.
An Air India flight operating from Delhi to Bengaluru (AI2487) was diverted to Bhopal on Tuesday after the crew detected a potential technical snag mid-air. The aircraft landed safely at Bhopal Airport, where engineers have begun detailed inspections expected to take several hours.
“Air India regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers by this unforeseen situation. Our ground team at Bhopal has been providing immediate assistance and support to the passengers. Every effort is being made to fly the passengers to their destination at the earliest,” the airline said in an official statement. It added that passenger safety remains the airline’s highest priority.
Meanwhile, another Air India flight (AI174) traveling from San Francisco to Delhi via Kolkata made a precautionary landing at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on Sunday after the flight crew reported a suspected technical issue mid-route.
According to the airline, all passengers were safely disembarked after landing. They were provided meals on board and later given hotel accommodations after clearing immigration. Air India stated that alternative arrangements were being made to ensure their onward journey to Delhi at the earliest.
“Air India sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused by the diversion, which was undertaken purely in the interest of safety. Every effort is being made to minimize passenger discomfort,” the airline added in a post on X.
Both aircraft remain grounded for precautionary checks, and technical teams have been dispatched for inspection and maintenance.
