Bengaluru— A woman has been arrested for allegedly killing a pet dog by banging it against the floor inside an apartment lift in the city, police said on Monday.

The shocking incident, which occurred on November 1, was captured on CCTV footage. The video shows the accused, identified as Pushpalatha, entering the lift with the dog before allegedly throwing it against the floor, killing it instantly.

According to police, the complainant — a 23-year-old woman — had hired Pushpalatha on September 11 to take care of her four-year-old pet dog, Goofy, for a monthly salary of ₹23,000. “On November 1, my dog died. When I asked Pushpalatha about it, she claimed ignorance. But later, the CCTV footage revealed she had thrown the dog onto the ground near the lift, causing its death,” the complainant stated in her report.

Following the complaint, police registered a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Section 325 (mischief by killing or maiming an animal) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Bagalur police station.

Pushpalatha was arrested on Sunday and is currently in police custody for further investigation, officials said.
