PATIALA — The Punjab government has announced a ₹70 crore development plan for 35 sacred sites in Patiala district associated with Guru Teg Bahadur, as part of the 350th martyrdom anniversary commemorations of the revered Sikh Guru.

Addressing the media on Monday, Cabinet Ministers Tarunpreet Singh Sond and Harbhajan Singh ETO revealed that the development will take place at locations where the Guru had stayed and delivered sermons during his travels. The commemorative events are set to begin on November 19 and continue till November 25, following the Gurmat Maryada traditions.

“Out of the 135 sites in Punjab connected to Guru Teg Bahadur, Patiala alone has 35, making it the district with the highest number,” said Sond. “These sites hold immense spiritual and historical significance, and the government is committed to enhancing them for future generations.”

The ministers also paid respects at Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib and Gurdwara Sri Motibagh Sahib, encouraging the public to actively participate in the upcoming celebrations.

A key part of the event includes the launch of yatras from four different regions — Kashmir, Gurdaspur, Bathinda, and Faridkot — all culminating at Anandpur Sahib. The Malwa-2 Yatra will make its stop in Patiala on November 20.

The initiative reflects the state’s commitment to preserving Sikh heritage and honoring the sacrifice of Guru Teg Bahadur, who stood for religious freedom and human rights.
