KARAMANA – A dangerous late-night stunt by two minors ended in a dramatic car crash in the early hours of Friday. A 14-year-old boy and his school friend took the family car for a joyride through the city after reportedly locking the boy’s parents inside their own house to ensure a stealthy exit.
The incident occurred around 2:00 AM at Karmana. The vehicle, traveling from Kannammoola toward the Karamana-Thampanoor road, careened through a roadside railing and plunged several feet down a steep embankment, coming to rest upside down.
The “Miracle” and Discovery
Despite the severity of the crash, which left the vehicle mangled, both boys escaped without any injuries. According to the Karamana police, the teenagers managed to crawl out of the flipped car and climb back up to the main road on their own.
The parents only became aware of the situation when police contacted them. It was at this point they realized they had been locked inside their home while their son was involved in the high-speed accident.
Legal Action and Rising Trend
The police have taken a stern view of the incident, citing a worrying increase in similar cases:
-
Case Registered: An FIR has been filed under the Motor Vehicles Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
-
Liability: The charges have been registered against the boy’s mother, who is the registered owner of the vehicle.
-
Troubling Trend: Authorities noted that there has been a recent spike in incidents where minors lock parents indoors to roam the city or run away, posing significant risks to themselves and public safety.
Police officials have urged parents to secure vehicle keys and remain vigilant, as such “joyrides” often lead to far more tragic outcomes.
